THE NAME APINKS CONCEPTS

Maryam

Apinks Concepts has a story behind its name. The name came from what is called ORIKI in my Yoruba heritage. According to the Yoruba Historian Samuel Johnson, oriki expresses what a child is hoped to become.  A male child praise name is usually an expression of something heroic, brave or strong while for females it is usually of endearment and cherished identity. ORIKI, or praise poetry is a cultural phenomenon amongst Yoruba-speakers of West Africa. Apinks is from APINKE meaning ‘One pampered by many’. There are many beautiful female ORIKIS such as Asabi, Abake, Awele, Ayoka, Amoke, Adunni, Asake, Aduke, Abike, Anike, Arike, Atoke, Anike, Apeke, Ajoke , Ajike, and many more. The APINKS combined with CONCEPTS is to bring together varieties of artistic work such as sewing, beading and event decoration under one umbrella. The name is a combination of my love for culture and creativity.
